SXNF, festival voor nieuwe muziek, serveert smakelijke voorpret in Bazart. Sunburned hand of the man (US) mixt psychedelica, weird folk, spacerock en drones. The Hot Stewards, half Deens, half Dutch, giet jaren '80 krakers in een smerig en ultra-aanstekelijk electrorockjasje. Einoma bestaat uit twee IJslandse vrienden die sterk sferische ambient en minimal brouwen. Oftewel: aanstaande vrijdag, 26 oktober, vindt het jaarlijkse pre-SXNF feestje plaats in Bazart met optredens van: - Sunburned hand of the man (US) - The Hot Stewards (NL/DK) - Einóma (ICE) Voor maar 6.50 euro kun je genieten van een divers programma gehost door het Haags Pop Centrum in samenwerking met Paard van Troje. Iedereen is van harte welkom om kennis te maken met de organisatie van SXNF, fotoshoots te nemen van de posters die gepresenteerd worden, alvast een t-shirtje aan te schaffen en natuurlijk in de eerste plaats een voorproefje te krijgen van de muzikale content van het festival dat op 14 en 15 december zal plaatsvinden. SUNBURNED HAND OF THE MAN Sunburned Hand of the Man is a band in the loose sense of the word; it's better described as a banner under which a collective of musical freaks have gathered. Based in Boston, Sunburned Hand of the Man grew out of trio which called itself Shit Spangled Banner and featured John Molony and Rob Thomas who would later become anchors of the Sunburned coterie. The term "free folk" starts popping up in an attempt to describe this band and Sunburned is seen as a leader in this musical movement of sorts, a movement which had its antecedents in Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music as much as in avant jazz and noise groups. EINÓMA Einóma is a collaboration between two Icelandic friends and studio partners, Bjarni and Steindór. Prior to the genesis of Einóma and their intriguing, mysterious strain of experimental electronica, Bjarni and Steindór initially collaborated on short films, writing scripts and playing with sound and camera techniques. As Bjarni and Steindor's interest in film diminished, the duo began composing their own recordings somewhere between the experimental electronic music, that they say they had been listening to and the ambience that they had hoped to attain with their short films. The first year, almost everything they wrote was without beats - ambient pieces with a lot of vocal samples and distorted sounds. Einoma's subsequent experiments with rhythm prompted the release of their debut EP, Floating Point By Zero, via the frequently intriguing Icelandic label Uni:form. A year later the pair singed to Vertical Form and released their debut album the same year. Undir feilnótum was a deeply atmospheric album, incorporating eight tracks and clocking in at 38 mins in length. Each cut firmly demonstrated their obsessive skill for programming, intricate sequencing and rhythmic construction providing a body of work consisting of varying themes, moods and tempo's. After having spent months meticulously sculpting new tracks, Milli Tónverka was released. The album´s title roughly translates to "Music that lies in-between" and indeed, Einóma does reach into the firmament and pull from their electronic husksan essence and soul of great weight and darkness. This is music created with the heart of high technology and the soul of a spirit world not usually seen with human eyes. The albums nine tracks collectively characterize Einóma´s music as severe, majestic, glacial, and unsettling. The Hot Stewards, an all-star formation with members from The Spirit That Guides Us, Campsite, and Jetset ready, are here to remind you. In 2005 the band shocked the world with their debut EP 'The Very Best Of The Hot Stewards', featuring the smash hit rock version of Bronski Beat's 'Smalltown Boy'. After a year of heavy touring and some rehab-related difficulties, the boys have sobered up to crash the studio once more for a full-length record. Now, Sally Forth Records proudly presents 'Cover Up', a collection of eighties classics, delivered loud, slick, and filthy, like they've always screamed to be played.
